About the Author

David Grembowski, Ph.D., M.A., is a professor in the Department of Health Ser- vices in the School of Public Health and the Department of Oral Health Sciences in the School of Dentistry, and adjunct professor in the Department of Sociology, at the University of Washington. He has taught health program evaluation to graduate students for more than twenty years. His evaluation interests are prevention, the performance of health programs and health care systems, survey research methods, and the social determinants of population health. His other work has examined efforts to improve quality by increasing access to care in integrated delivery systems; pharmacy outreach to provide statins preventively to patients with diabetes; managed care and physician referrals; managed care and patient-physician relationships and physician job satisfaction; cost-effectiveness of preventive services for older adults; cost-sharing and seeing out-of-network physicians; social gradients in oral health; local health department spending and racial/ethnic disparities in mortality rates; fluoridation effects on oral health and dental demand; financial incentives and dentist adoption of preventive technologies; effects of dental insurance on dental demand; and the link between mother and child access to dental care.

Excellent resource for DIYers

Excellent book for a DIYer planning on installing a hydronic radiant system. Gives basically all the information that you need to plan and install a full system. Some of the topics are pretty involved and require some basic math, but the book walks you through everything with great detail. Covers:

1) Determining heating load estimates

2) Required water temperatures and flow rates

3) Pipe installation, including pumps and expansion tanks

4) Several approaches to zoning

5) Laying PEX tube for radiant panels

The book was very useful. The only drawback was the "Hydronics Design Kit" was not included. This costs an additional $76 from Oikos.com and is referred to many times in the book. Therefore, it is almost a requirement during use of the book.

This book is THE resource for any homeowner planning to install radiant floor heat. It is written as a textbook for HVAC students, but it serves equally well as a reference and informative design resource for the average homeowner. John Siegenthaler is recognized by his peers as one of the outstanding radiant heating engineers. I highly recommend this book.

Eric Damien brought out every emotion and then some!

I know "bad guys". I write "bad guys". Let me tell you...so does Lulu Astor! Eric Damien is about as bad as they get. He brought out every emotion in me as I read both MY HEART TO FEAR and BUT NOW I SEE!
This story is so much more than that of Eric and Ali. The characters are all so intriguing. I love the convoluted story, the twists and turns, the ups and downs. I was thinking about this story LONG after I closed my kindle on the final page.
All I can do is hope that others will find this gem! (If you're looking for light and fluffy...keep looking. IF you're looking for gritty, dark, and real, this is the perfect series for you!) One click BUT NOW I SEE as soon as you finish MY HEART TO FEAR!

Amazing conclusion to a wonderfully difficult story!!! Must Read!!

The conclusion of My Heart To Fear is completely fantastic. We begin right where we left off. Ali is in a mental facility because her husband, Eric, put her there when she tried to kill herself and him. All false as we know but it seems luck has not been on her side when dealing with her monster of a husband.

Eric has done the unimaginable to Ali…..she would like him dead. He’s taking away her liberties, lied to her, hurt her in every way a person can be hurt….but does she still love him? Is there a fine line between hate and love? Once it’s crossed….can you go back?

Eric has his reasons for his complete, well, just mean’ness. He’s just that - mean. As usual something traumatic happened to him as a child. However, for Eric it wasn’t one thing and he was completely a child. At sixteen a super storm of events took place. His family, his body, his friends, his mind, his outlook on life…all drastically changed. Can Ali be the one thing in the world to bring him back to the wonderful person he was before all this? She is his light but she also has demons of her own and needs of her own. Can two people with both light and dark qualities make it?

There’s so many things that happen and I would love to give my opinion and talk about them all but I can’t spoil it!!! I will give you a tiny hint of things that happen….two different people take a hit out on someone, pregnancies, break ups, marriage, family feuds, hospitalizations by a couple of characters, a trip to Spain, police, bodyguards and much more. There’s also the truths that needs to come out between all members of both families.

I think my favorite was watching them figure things out for themselves. Seeing them cope with other people’s past, their own demons and trying to find their way. Do they? Well I can’t tell you that!! I can tell you it’s definitely worth the read!!! This is not a stand-alone - you will need to read the first book, My Heart To Fear.

Lulu….OMG you are fantastic!!! Loved this two-part series. It’s exactly enough story without being overly long. It’s the perfect part of dark and light, of bad and good. Even the good have flaws and it makes the story relatable and human. And I must say the right amount of heat vs. romance! Really so fantastic!

The Damiens' (married ties as well as the blood ties) are one messed up family. This is truly one of those reads where you hate, hate, hate the antagonist, Eric Damien, while secretly hoping for some sort of redemption even though it seems there is no way possible he might be decent. And then bam, you have another viewpoint and reason to believe the victim might just be as bad as the culprit. Many characters to get caught up in makes this story one that will keep you involved and frustrated (in a good way). Great twisty turny read that plays out to the very end and whatever you do, don't blink....you will likely miss something.

The most intelligent and usefull book on fractals

I really enjoyed the author's style. It is not a typical mathematical book. So if you are into strict formal mathematics this is not for you. The author has deep understanding of fractals and he is an expert in Iterated Function Systems (IFS). The shadow theorem is one of the biggest hits on this book.
What I particularly like from this book is the illustrations. They let you understand fractals intuitively. It is definitely an ideal book for engineers. Try also his other more advanced book SuperFractals
The only part of the book that is not very well developed is chaos, although the "chaotic dance" presented on the book is good starting point

Man, this got way too deep, way too fast. I have some algebra, some statistical analysis, some calc... This just took off running and left me in the dust. I was "fooled" by the "first course" title?

In fractal geometry we are concerned with the structure of subsets of various very simple "geometrical" spaces. Such a space is denoted by X. It is the space on which we think of drawing our fractals; it is the place where fractals live. What is a fractal? For us, for now, it is just a subset of a space. Whereas the space is simple, the fractal subset may be geometrically complicated.

So, why is *this* a fractal, but, *That*'s just a recursive function? Idunno, and I guess that I won't until I find another book?

This is a beautiful book. LOTs of graphics, TONs of information, but not for me.
